Behavioural Consultation

For problematic behaviour I offer a full behavioural service which includes a MHERA assessment.

At Holistic Pet I focus on viewing your pet as an individual, and review the living environment from an overall perspective as well as considering the pets natural needs; both physical and mental, emotional states which may affect a pets behaviour and general mood state.

This is achieved by doing an MHERA Assessment

What is the MHERA approach

MHERA™ is an approach that has been developed by COAPE. It provides a practical framework that allows me to evaluate what is really going on with your pet, considers his emotional life and the role it plays in his
behaviour and takes his individual uniqueness into consideration

MHERA™ takes a detailed look at

  • Mood State Assessment & Cognitive Bias how the animal feels and behaves generally
  • Hedonic Budget Assessment which tracks the animal's daily activities and their impact on mood
  • Emotional Assessment the animal's emotional experiences at the time the problem is observed
  • Reinforcement Assessment exactly which factors, external and internal, are maintaining the behaviour problem

When working with problem behaviours it is crucial to view the entire individual as well as the environment the pet lives in. There are many factors that can contribute to what may seem a 'simple' behavioural problem or something thought the pet just needs to learn to do. Many behaviours may be difficult to 'cure' if other factors, like stress or other emotional states like fear, are involved. Therefore, the holistic view is crucial. The MHERA approach considers reinforcements, everyday life factors, hedonic budget, emotional triggers, emotional state of mind, etc.

Once the MHERA report is complete, you will receive a full copy of the report and a behaviour and training plan

Two appointments are included in the plan and these will be used to demonstrate and practice any training

Email, Telephone and Zoom support is all provided throughout the plan so you will have lots of support when putting the plan in place
